6 Easy Avocado Recipes You Need to Try this Spring

Avocados are pretty much the world’s most perfect food (if you can’t tell, I’m a huge fan!). It is the fruit of the Avocado tree, but unlike most fruit, it isn’t high in carbohydrates. Instead it’s filled with healthy fats and tons of nutrients. There are many kinds of avocados, and the shape (from pear-shaped to round) and color (from green to black) can vary between them. They can also weigh anywhere from 8 ounces (220 grams) to 3 pounds (1.4 kg). Here are some of the most abundant nutrients, in a single 3.5 ounce (100 gram) serving: Vitamin K: 26% of the RDA. Folate: 20% of the RDA. Vitamin C: 17% of the RDA. Potassium: 14% of the RDA. Vitamin B5: 14% of the RDA. Vitamin B6: 13% of the RDA. Vitamin E: 10% of the RDA. It also contains small amounts of Magnesium, Manganese, Copper, Iron, Zinc, Phosphorous, Vitamin A, B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin) and B3 (Niacin). Sounds like a pretty good way to get a ton of vitamins and minerals. Even better, they’re great for low-carb and keto diets, and just eating healthy, whole foods in general. Here are 6 of my favorite ways to enjoy this amazing superfood. Avocado Toast Ah yes, the ubiquitous avocado toast, favorite of millennials, and cause of much angst in the reporting world. But you know what, it’s DAMN GOOD...

Review: KOSE SOFTYMO Speedy Cleansing Oil

One of my first forays into Asian Beauty when I was just starting my routine was to purchase a new face wash. I was a little concerned, as I’d never used an oil to cleanse my face before and I didn’t know what to expect, but oil cleansing is a staple in Asian Beauty and highly recommended to clear up skin. My skin is dry, but prone to breakouts and acne if I use the wrong products and I had no idea how my skin would react to slathering a handful of oil on my face. It just seemed so backwards to everything I’d been told. But I did a little research and cleansing with oil is actually one of the best ways to wash your face. Cleansing oils can be extremely hydrating because most don’t contain the surfactants and harsh detergents that many foaming cleansers contain. They’re also soothing to dry skin,  and even better, oil attracts oil, which means it will easily remove that sunscreen, foundation, or eye make up you’ve been struggling to scrub off with your other cleansers. And because there are no harsh chemicals to irritate or cause issues, oil cleansers can actually help repair your skin and prevent acne because you’ve stripped your skin of it’s natural oils. I still wasn’t convinced however, so I did a little research and found a recommended...

Things I Love – May Version

It’s May, and I think Michigan has finally made the turn into spring after a very (VERY) long winter. I’m ready for spring cleaning, flowers, and pretty things, and this month’s Loves definitely reflect that. Take a look at some of the things I’m obsessed with this month! Makeup Sponges, ESARORA 6 Pieces (3+3) Foundation Blending Sponge I’m not sure why I’ve never used these little guys before, but they are amazing. I’ve been running into trouble getting my pressed powder to look right after applying moisturizer, but as soon as I started using these, dampened with water and then dabbed on my compact, it goes on flawlessly. Same for my tinted moisturizer. I don’t think I’ll ever be without these again! And the pretty spring colors are an added bonus when I’m stumbling through my morning routine.   Acure Organics – Blue Tansy Night Oil I’m a huge fan of facial oils and my dry skin usually loves the heavy, expensive kinds. But when spring arrives, my thick oils just don’t cut it and I turn into a greasy mess. I saw a recommendation a few weeks ago that the Acure Organics Blue Tansy night oil was a dupe of the  Herbivore Lapis Oil which does magical things for my skin and I had to rush out to pick up a bottle. Oh My. For only $13, this...

7 Best Sheetmasks for Spring

Sheetmasks are my favorite quick luxury item. They’re fairly inexpensive, fast, and can provide a little bit of self-care in the middle of an otherwise hectic day. Sheetmasks are face-shaped sheet fabrics soaked in nutrition-packed solution called serum. The sheet is made up of variety of materials including papers, fibers or gel types. Sheet masks are usually used once and are individually packaged, making them portable, convenient, and easy to use. Most sheetmasks are left on 20-30 minutes, or until the serum is absorbed into your skin and the mask becomes dryish. They’re great to use when you...

7 Low-Carb Breakfasts that will Change Your Morning

Most mornings, I’m in a rush to get ready for work and out the door by Seven a.m. Breakfast is pretty low down on the priority list, until I get to work and realize I’m suddenly ravenous and the only option is vending machine pop tarts or a bagel from the convenience shop in our building. Neither option exactly fits in with my goals to watch my carb and sugar intake and to be healthier in my food choices this year (Keto!). So what’s a hungry girl to do? Luckily I’ve found 7 easy low carb/Keto breakfasts that are...
